About Vulcanair
Vulcanair was established in 1996 with private capital with the aim of becoming a respected General Aviation manufacturer worldwide.Between 1996 and 1998 Vulcanair purchased all the assets, type designs, trademarks and rights of Partenavia and the SF600 Series Program including type certificates, tooling and rights from Siai Marchetti.
Vulcanair Aircraft has harnessed the great Partenavia and Siai Marchetti (SF600 Program) heritages with the dynamic addition of modern tools, a modern organization and a world-class engineering team, enabling a painstaking constant stream of aircraft, design upgrades and improvements.
The Challenge
The files managed by the Vulcanair staff are different in both type and size (aircraft project designs, service bulletins, service instructions, flight manuals, maintenance manuals, ...).Furthermore, it is also fundamental to consider that each file must have the Level of confidentiality (Public /Private) and can be accessed only by authorized persons.
The on-premises file server architecture management had become difficult both in the term of security and the storage availability, that has been growing exponentially over the last years.
Why Amazon Web Services
Vulcanair decided to use Amazon Web Services (AWS) and in particular a combination of Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Glacier as storage solution.“We needed a solution that could adapt to our needs in terms of both reliability and security and AWS absolutely fit the bill,” Marco Visciano, Vulcanair IT Manager, says.
All the documents are now placed in Amazon S3 and the public ones are accessible by the customers via the Vulcanair website.
All files are also copied to Amazon Glacier, to ensure that the data is available at all times, even in the event of a disaster.
Through the combined use of Amazon S3 and Amazon Glacier, Vulcanair is able to securely store data volumes without requiring additional operational overhead.
The Benefits
Secure long-term storage is the key to Vulcanair 's success.By offloading storage functionality to AWS, Vulcanair now benefits the scalability, durability and security Amazon S3 and can focus entirely on its own platform's core functionality, better serving its customers.
The infrastructure complexity has been reduced and Vulcanair has been experiencing better uptime on AWS compared to old traditional on-premises file server architecture.
Last but not least Vulcanair was able to to lower the operational costs and to improve IT staff productivity”
“I have been working for several years with IDC SpA - Visciano concludes - and I appreciated once more the ability to put the customer and his needs at the center of his propositions, through the great competence to propose, design and develop the correct solution to the respect to our IT context“.
